Hamburg, Germany, a gateway to the world with its huge shipping port, is a traditional center of international trade and international law. Centuries ago, merchants from Hamburg crossed the borders and participated in the first trade alliance with a uniform commercial law and its own jurisdiction - the „Hanseatic League“.
In this hanseatic spirit, since 2009, every year participants of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot) gather in Hamburg for the Hanseatic Pre-Moot.
The 3rd CAM-CCBC Hanseatic Pre-Moot will take place in Hamburg with the support of the Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (CAM CCBC), the Hamburg Arbitration Circle (HAC), the Moot Alumni Association of the University of Hamburg and fourteen Hamburg law firms.
The 3rd CAM-CCBC Hanseatic Pre-Moot will be preceded by the Hamburg International Arbitration Day on 09 April 2019 organized by the Bucerius Law School followed by an evening reception at the law firm Taylor Wessing with a fantastic view over the Harbour city and the Elbphilharmonie. The conference will be held at the Bucerius Law School (Jungiusstr. 6) with the contribution of several prestigious speakers: www.law-school.de/arbitration-day. Please note that separate registration for the conference is required and no registration fee will be charged.
On 10 April 2019, the pleading sessions will give the teams plenty of opportunity to practice and to perfect their speech before heading to Vienna. The Premoot pleadings will be held in various distinguished law firms located near the street “Neuer Wall” in the city center, including Brödermann Jahn, CMS Hasche Sigle, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Hanefeld, Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, GSK Stockmann, Graf von Westphalen, Luther, SKW Schwarz, Taylor Wessing, Manner Spangenberg, Raschke von Knobelsdorf Heiser, Quinn Emanuel Urquart & Sullivan, LLP and White & Case. This provides the participating teams the opportunity to be in touch with the law firms and to get to know their offices and lawyers. Lunch will be served in each venue. As a closing event, there will be an evening reception at the law firm Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek.
During the past eight editions of the Hanseatic Pre-Moot, teams came from all over the world (Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, New Zealand, Paraguay, Poland, Serbia, Switzerland, Sweden, United States) ensuring a valuable exchange of strategies, arguments and cultural views between the participants.
Apart from the strong cooperation and commitment from different law firms as well as the high level of participating teams, the quality and preparation of arbitrators has always been one of the highlighting features of the Hanseatic Pre-Moot. Like in the previous year, the arbitrators will be lawyers from the participating firms and members of the Hanseatic Arbitration Circle, as well as external arbitrators, who are most welcome to contribute to the 3rd CAM-CCBC Hanseatic Pre-Moot.
Providing a professional and at the same time friendly environment to the teams, coaches and arbitrators, the CAM-CCBC Hanseatic Pre-Moot is a distinguished opportunity in the journey of the Vis Moot. We are looking forward to welcoming you and your team in Hamburg!
